I’ve done a full revamp and update of my previous article highlighting free SVN and project hosting services. As well as including a fancy table to help decide which is best for you/your team.

The old one was getting boring and I’ve been taking tips from ProBlogger. Hoping to implement a few changes over the next day or so.
Thank you for your patience.
Unfortunately the Straw Dogs VPS account was deleted on Thursday by VPSFarm. Apparently this was due to the PayPal subscription being cancelled by me on September 2nd. As much as the PayPal site does state that the sub was cancelled by me – I disagree. I see no reason why I’d cancel the subscription to my main VPS provider. Regardless of the who, what or why: Straw Dogs and several of my other sites have been deleted without warning.
Backups?
Yes I had backups but due to a series of silly coincidences recently (local machine failure and moving of backups between servers) none of my data has been saved. So I’m resorting to Google Cache to save my blog but my other sites are very much dead and buried. Hours of code lost, blood sweat and tears down the drain. I don’t know whether I should be blaming VPSFarm or PayPal, but in all honesty it doesn’t really matter. Whats done is done and the best way to go forward is just that – go forward!!
All my work will be rebuilt bigger and better with the wisdom of months to help me.
Here’s to a great future. Thank you for your patience while I get everything back up to speed.
Whether its the winter months or just being busy the blog and me went into hibernation for a while. Besides realising I turn more Mancunian when under the influence of alcohol I have little to report.
Oh actually – yes I have.
I have a new personal project I am working on. A ‘pet’ project. One similar to the “Chavscum” site – a social phenomena more familiar to the British readers of the blog. Although so as to not leave out our American…’friends’ a “chav” is roughly equivalent to “trailer trash”.
Cultural Virus
Although my new site will have a greater international appeal due to this sub-culture being particularly ‘virulent’. It will run aloing the same lines though but using some of Rails unique little strengths to make it nice and smooth in operation. With nifty features allowing for more user interaction.
Web Templates
I won’t go into too much detail but basic image uploading and commenting have been implemented. Along with me re-learning RJS templates. My previous stumbling block to all og this was design – I’m hopelessly inept at design. This time I ’stole’ my template from the OSWD. Well worth a look if your like me and can’t design to save your life.
New Sub Blog
I have no idea what I’m going to do with it nor what its content will be, but after many, many failed attempts to transfer my blog to a Typo powered one it failed. I even attempted….nevermind. I don’t want to highlight my own lack of patience and inadequacy. I have a new blog I’ll post other more personal things on and as such will have more regular postings.
